Southern Valley of Cusco
About this experience
Cusco's least touristy southern circuit: the Tipón terraces, the Wari urban center of Pikillaqta, and the 'Sistine Chapel' of Andahuaylillas.
Detailed Itinerary
We pick you up from your hotel between 08:15 and 08:45 a.m. We visit the following places.
Tipón: an impressive cultivated site with 12 active terraces, whose walls were built with finely carved stones and a still-functioning Inca irrigation system.
Pikillaqta: a large urban center from the Wari Empire with over a thousand structures — plazas, storehouses, dwellings, temples, narrow streets, and buildings that reached up to 4 stories high.
Andahuaylillas: a typical Andean colonial village with singular architecture, known as the 'Sistine Chapel of Cusco' for its remarkable interior murals.
On the return we pass through Saylla, a typical Cusco town where you can enjoy delicious roasted pork (optional). We arrive back in Cusco at approximately 14:30 hrs.
